If you've ever wanted to own an American classic collectible fly rod that you can fish with, this is it. Very nice 2-piece Russ Peak graphite trout rod built in the early 1980's, in very good shape. Russ Peak, of Pasadena, CA, was for years in the mid-20th century considered the premiere custom rod builder in the USA. His fiberglass rods are still highly collectible; this one is graphite, so will sell for considerably less, but it has many of the features that distinguish a Peak rod, such as.
Beautiful tapered cork cigar grip that transitions smoothly into the skeleton reel seat and which features Russ's signature hook-keeper wrap that seamlessly forms the tip of the grip. Clean, understated guide and ferrule wraps with minimalist trim wraps.
Serial number on both rod sections (#14423). External sleeve ferrule - rod was made from one blank, rather than the modern method of using basically two blanks that fit together. Russ's cursive handwriting on the butt section denoting specifications and original owner's name.
A unique feature of this particular rod is the color of the blank: The glass rods for which Peak was most famous all sport a rich chocolate "browntone" color under a high-gloss finish, but most of his graphite blanks were charcoal grey. This blank is a dark brown that shimmers a little in the sun, sort of like the original Sage graphite blanks. Comes with original aluminum tube, in good shape, with original label, and original brown cloth rod sock. Get this rod, hang a classic Orvis CFO reel of of it, and go out and enjoy a fun day on the creek with an American classic combo! The item "Beautiful, Slightly-Used Russ Peak Graphite Fly Rod for Collecting and Fishing" is in sale since Wednesday, September 15, 2021.
