Vintage Heddon #17 black beauty bamboo fly rod

  

8.5 ft, 2 tip Heddon#17 Black Beauty from 1939-41. Original silk wrappings(black/gold trim). Painstakingly stripped and re varnished, 3 coats spar varnish cut 4:1, and wet sanded with 1000 grit wet/dry sandpaper between coats. Original reel seat was cracked, so I replaced it with a walnut seat.

The cork is shaped for comfort on the side instead of the top. At first I was leary of this, but when I casted it, I found it to be very comfortable and gave me more delicate control.

This piece is absolutely gorgeous and will make a beautiful gift for him or her. Hang it on your wall if you want, but there is another 80 years of action left in this fine rod.
